The function of muscular spasm and stiffness as it relates to arthritic and pain symptoms.

When patients complain of arthritis pain in the neck, hand, wrists and shoulders, they are also frequently experiencing associated muscular stiffness in the neck region.

Patients often find that they are not aware of tenderness in areas above and below the collar bone or in the ribs under the armpit and the fleshy area in front and behind the armpit.

When we look to address arthritic symptoms in the feet and knees we note that many sufferers are tender in the groin as well as muscles in the upper legs with associated stiffness and weakness. Lower leg and foot pain may be associated with achilles tendon inflammation. The subsequent pain which radiates to the heel or in-step of the foot may be perceived as gout.

Many patients who display stiffness or tenderness over the liver, gallbladder, spleen, pancreas, and especially the small and large intestine may experience such diverse symptoms as "panic attacks, stomach ailments, bloating, irritable bowel, tension or apprehension, water retention, or reluctant bladder". The above symptoms are thought to be the result of spasm and appear to be quite common in the general population. It is theorized that the spasm is contributing to deep tissue inflammation prompting changes in the autoimmune system. Changes are often noted in blood tests and liver function tests.

In order to properly address the entire group of symptoms which we call arthritis or pain, we propose that we need to address these spasms and assist the body to normalize the blood flow function.

Our experience has shown that once these spasms are released, the patient often describes a tingling or warm (blood rush) feeling with subsequent improved flexibility and less stiffness. Patients do not comment as much on pain relief as about feeling normal or relaxed. In fact, their experience of pain is so completely de-activated that most do not seem to have a particular memory of their experience of pain.
