TRIGGER POINT TREATMENT

WHAT ARE TRIGGER POINTS?
Trigger Points are felt in the body as areas of tenderness in the muscle or joints. They were first described by President John F. Kennedy's personal physician, Dr. Janet Travell. They are in fact electrically charged points that cause local and referred pain, muscle stiffness, joint pain, headache, tennis elbow, back spasm, bursitis, and other types of pain. Trigger points have been associated with MYOFASCIAL PAIN SYNDROMES and FIBROMYALGIA.

Activated Trigger Points can cause disruption in the autonomic nervous system leading to hormonal imbalance, organ dysfunction, chronic fatigue, sinus, asthmatic symptoms and migraine headaches. Pain caused by trigger points are thought to be the biggest cause of disability.

WHAT CAUSES TRIGGER POINTS?

Trigger points may be caused from birth trauma, injury sustained in a fall or accident, poor posture, overexertion, hereditary factors or most commonly, inflammatory conditions.

HOW ARE TRIGGER POINTS TREATED?

Trigger points have been traditionally treated by injecting cortisone and/or local anesthetics into the area. Other treatments include acupuncture, acupressure, deep tissue massage or cryotherapy. Patients often take anti-inflammatory pills which are expensive and may have hazardous side effects, or narcotic pain pills that can cause drowsiness, dependence, or addiction, and do not treat the source of pain.

HOW DOES NAT-U-VON Rx OIL "TRIGGER POINT RELIEF" WORK?

The active ingredient in NAT-U-VON Rx Oil is 1.3% natural menthol, which is recognized by the FDA as a topical pain reliever. This is combined with a proprietary blend of recognized safe organic essential oils and fragrance. When the NAT-U-VON Rx Oil is then applied as directed to active trigger points the menthol relieves the pain and the essentialoil/fragrance blend breaks the trigger point spasm.

NAT-U-VON Rx Oil is applied to the skin over the trigger point (see diagram) and gently rubbed in for 20-30 seconds. The product comes in a dry oil which means the oil is absorbed and feels dry to the touch after rubbing in for a few moments.

With regular application the stiffness and pain should be reduced or completely gone. Range of motion increases, tension is relieved and inflammation is reduced. Several regular applications may be required for the desired effect and results can vary depending on your condition.
